It is said the 1940's first 12 steel caboose #365-376 from the Magor Car Corporation were painted silver or light gray.
They were later painted red, some a dark red, some a bright red and the same style lettering as used on the wood caboose.
A 1947 B&W photo of #376 appears to be painted a dark red with gold numbers and arch lettering. (see photo below)
With the repainting about 1960 and the new round bow-tie herald logo the caboose lettering was changed to straight white lettering and yellow gold numbers. A few of the old wood cabooses also had this new round herald logo and white lettering.
