 Heonis
Information

The
HEONIS name Just how it came
about to be from CHIONIS
|
|
|
To
those that may wonder how the Heonis last
name got to be from our original name of Chionis.
There are maybe 2 different versions
of this story as to how it all came to
be.

1.
|
Not exactly sure
where this version may have taken place, at the immigration office or when Demetrius
Constantine Chionis applied for his US citizenship later on, but when he told them his
last name the officials misunderstood the punctuation of the sound maybe from
his foreign accent, thinking
the “Chi” as “He”, so they wrote down Heonis. So this is one version as to the last
name.

It has
also been said
that this was the way Demetrius
Constantine Chionis (James C. Heonis) put it in English because
it would be easier for everyone to pronounce. This name has 6 letters, thus
having 3 words in it ( he on is ) and you pronounce it as these 3 words together |
|
Also the Greek name
Demetrius is James in English so this is how the name Demetrius Constantine Chionis became James C. Heonis

The
American Generation of Heonis
|
|
From
the Third Generation of Demetrius Constantine Chionis,
being the Grand-Children of James C. Heonis onward,
they were born in the United States of America. Starting
in 1940 from the first Grand Child, their social life was
mostly with other Americans and the schools there, so
they only know the English language. This also applies
to the other generations that followed.
