In
The Beginning, A Greek Came To The New World (USA) From
An Island In Greece
A
mighty woman with a torch, her name Mother of
Exiles, from her beacon-hand glows world-wide
welcome, here mild eyes command. "Give
me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses
yearning to breathe free. Send these, the homeless
to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
Millions
of immigrants found their way to the U.S. through
Ellis Island in the New York harbor. From 1892
to 1954, as many as 60 million people made the
trek through Ellis Island to life in the United
States or a disappointing boat ride back home.

| Introduction:
This
family web site is designed and maintained by the
second Grand-Son of the first Chionis that came to
the United States. Demetrius Constantine Chionis,
his new American name was James C. Heonis. Please
be sure to read the Family
History link page. He had
two brothers (Paraskevas Constantine Chionis) (Christos
Constantine Chionis) that died at an earlier age
but they were married and had children.
The
other Chionis
Family Tree is still "under
construction". I am only at the begaining stage
as I try to sort out this information from the genealogy
record book of Gus Heonis. The first part I am working
on is the Family Tree of "Paraskevas Constantine
Chionis" and "Christos Constantine Chionis",
and each generation that follows with their full
name, date of birth, date of death, date of marriage,
wife/husband full name, wife/husband date of birth
and date of death, wife/husband father and mother
full name, wife/husband children. "Hope this
is easy to understand", maybe not to some.
So far I have only found
one error in the genealogy record book of Gus Heonis.
The wife of Paraskevas Constantine Chionis, Evangelia S.
Corodimas date of birth and death. I do need the correct dates for her, even
if it is just the year. If any family ancestors of these
two brothers would like to help with the family
tree information, please contact me.
I
would also like to know the Email Address of
any ancestors from these Chionis Family members.
This way I can contact them to let them know when
any updates have been done. My father (Gus Heonis) kept in contact
with most of his greek friends and family members when he was alive.
At the
present time I am going through the many photos
albums of my father (Gus D. Heonis) and picking
out the ones to use on the Heonis.com web site.
It takes much time to scan these photos and edit
them for better viewing. I am also updating each
family page with more information and will be adding
a photo album to many of them in time. I hope
to have most of these new family tree pages on the
Internet in a few weeks.
Much
information and photos will be posted here and added
when possible as it is being updated or revised.
